Tornado - Maya fluids

Maya fluids, tornado test using 6 emitters. Top part is purposely colored red which indicates sky level (another fluid container) developed with my vfx student Boon Siong.

Reason for using 6 separated emitters is to preserve details. Using singe emitter requires very high resolution. Volumed turbulence and Volume axis filed are controlling swirling.

  6. I can not understand this passage: Volume volumed turbulence and swirling axis filed are controlling. I can not rotate the volue. thanks

  7. Hi Rocco,

it means you will need volume axis and turbulence field with volume to localise their influence. Hope this helps.

  10. Hi,

U need 4-6 emitters at the bottom of container with spherical volume on each. They should have enough buoyancy to rise up. Also they have to be dense enough. Once u have stable emission apply volume axis fields or simillar with cone volume to limit effect. Any other force which creates swirl looking effect will work as well. Hope this helps.

  12. Hi Borko
I was wondering if you would explain step by step on how you did this?

Would you be willing to share a scene file with this fluid setup with us? I would love to play with it. Unfortunately it is very hard to get anywhere near this kind of look from scratch. Having an idea of what is done and seeing how the setup reacts to changes on various parameters would be most helpful.

Please let me know, many thanks.

no man he ain't gonna give any tutorial..no bloody on web has made a nice tutorial on maya fluid tornado....

  16. Hi guys,

I don`t have step by step tutorial, and I`m not able to share a file, but in general just follow explanation from previous post if you are using fluids.
Also, there is even more controllable way as well, u could swirl couple of particle emitters using vortex field with volume plus some turbulence to drive your fluids with particles

  17. I am new to maya fluid. everyone tells maya fluids are pain to learn but I really wanna know how you did this. It will greatly help me in my R&D. would be even nicer if you made a tut on this.

  19. This look cool. What resolution you use?

  20. Thanks. Resolution was around 200. Nowadays you could use auto resized containers to get even more details

    2. Hey Borko,

I'm a student currently studying Maya particles in college, and this whole concept of adding the fields has really stumped me. I can't seem to create ANYTHING like you've made here. Could you please post a file, or else a BRIEF set of screenshots from your settings? Anything you could show us would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for your time, and for the inspiration!

      Cheers,
      Cameron
